C41 FILM DEVELOPING AND COLOR PRINTING WORKSHOP

This 2-day workshop is for those who want to learn and experience developing and printing from negative to color in the darkroom. It is recommended for those who are already minimally familiar with analog photography and the darkroom.

 

WHAT WE DO

DAY 1:
The first day is devoted to color negative development using the C-41 process. We will analise color film and its components, the differences with black and white film, possible development methods and all the baths that it involves. After that, participants will manually develop their own roll of film so that they can  easily replicate it on their own. 
 
DAY 2:
The second day is devoted to printing color negatives through the RA4 process. After a brief analysis of the necessary equipment and the different methods of paper development, we will experiment with what are the basics of color printing (color dominants, use of filters, etc.). At this point participants will be able to make their own contact sheet and enlargement from a negative of their choice.

 

WHAT YOU NEED

You must bring a color film (C-41) already exposed but not yet developed of any format from 35mm to 120.

NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS

The workshop is limited to a maximum of 2 participants for printing and a maximum of 3 participants for devolping.

LANGUAGE

The workshop can be conducted in either Italian or English.

TEACHERS

Maurizio Mariorenzi (FILM DEVELOPING)
 
Maurizio was born in Rome and has a degree in Agro-Industrial Biotechnology. Self-taught and a true analogue photography enthusiast, since 2018 he has been in charge of color and black and white development for "De Bernardis," a historic point of reference for photography in the center of Rome.
 
Roberta Ridolfi (PRINTING)
 
Roberta was born in Rome and studied Photography at the London College of Communication and then worked as a freelance photographer for several international publications and clients including the New York Times, I-D, Zeit Magazine, Stella McCartney and the British Film Institute. She has been printing in color in the darkroom since 2002.
